Shooting Dark Prophecy on the Canon 5D

This is really interesting, thanks for posting it! I've been piling away my money to go towards getting something to shoot with of my own rather than borrowing an HVX every couple of months from a friend.

And I've been torn on what I'd rather invest in. I've loved using the HVX very, very much, but I've also been considering a DSLR that can shoot in 1080p. I'm really not sure what I'll end up going for.

Anyway, like I said, interesting post!

Great post!!!!!!!

Thanks for a really interesting and informative post.   I've worked with both RED and 5D footage in post, and agree with your assessment of the camera as yet another tool in the filmmaker's arsenal. Neither are particularly "traditional" post workflow friendly, but with a bit of planning both can deliver stunning results.

Nice explanation about the differences between still and cine lenses.  I used to work for an event photographer who shot with an Angenieux zoom modified for his Nikon.

I look forward to seeing Dark Prophecy.

Thanks for the great post and the information on your shoot.

I was wondering how to get one of those adapters for the camera? That would be excellent!

I've used the 7d to shoot in low light and have been quite impressed my self. A sample can be found here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nU0qXJUa-vQ

Ikan makes an ok monitor for viewing hdmi.

And I would agree the redrock gear is awesome, but very front heavy if you don't have the weights on the back of the rig.

I'm looking forward to read more about your filming.

Thanks!

Thank you SO MUCH for the very informative and interesting article/post!   It's amazing to me that this is the technology that is (somewhat!) available to the GENERAL PUBLIC; and that THIS QUALITY OF FILMAKING is the potential.

The "HOUSE" Season Finale was shot on this as well, and thanks to AZ for givin' us a head's up on this...I NEVER WOULD'VE KNOWN THIS...it's so amazing that THIS is one of the options that people are gonna be shooting with in the future...!

PEACE--Kath

re: Betacam

I'm not sure where you could get the adapters Will had as I believe those particular ones are one of a kind. However, numerous companies are developing products along the same lines, from adapters to even cine lenses that will go right onto the 5D or 7D mounting ring. No adapter required. I would check out sites like dvinfo.net for more info on where to find them.

Also, was reading American Cinematographer today and they had little piece on a company called Band Pro that is offering a PL Mount for the 7D. I believe it's a permanent retrofit but it's suppose to accomodate most cine-style PL mount lenses. Do a search for the company and I'm sure you'll fine it.
