Dark Prophecy on the iPad
  Posted by Anthony E. Zuiker on Aug 31, 2010

Level 26ers,

A few months ago, we asked you if you’d like to see Dark Prophecy on the iPad. Well, your dream is coming true. We’ve teamed up with a fantastic company called Hooray Society to develop one of the coolest apps on the market. I can’t wait to reveal the cool features behind this amazing app. However, we’ll have to wait a bit on that, as we’re still finalizing all the features prior to our launch date, October 14th.

That’s right, unlike last time, when the iPhone app came out several months after the book’s release, the iPad app will be available on the same day as the Digi-novel. Of course, that doesn’t count towards our goal of becoming a New York Times Bestseller but as I mentioned before, the iPad is the ideal device for the digi-novel, and having seen previews of Dark Prophecy on it, I can tell you that it looks amazing!

October 14th is going to be a big day: we’ve got the release of Dark Prophecy: A Level 26 Thriller Featuring Steve Dark, the launch of the iPad App for for the digi-novel, as well as Black Sqweegel making his primetime television debut on CSI.

We here at Dare to Pass are giving all we can to making this a big day for all you Level 26ers out there. We can’t wait to have you read the book, watch the cyber-bridges, and see everything else we’ve been creating for you.

Click HERE to see some images from the iPad app, and enjoy!

Sqweegel on CSI!
  Posted by Anthony E. Zuiker on Aug 17, 2010

As I announced a couple weeks ago on Twitter, Black Sqweegel will be on the 4th episode of this season’s CSI! The show will be airing on October 14th, 2010 to coincide with the launch of Dark Prophecy and the paperback launch of Dark Origins.

In the episode, currently titled “Sqweegel” the CSI’s will face their toughest challenge yet: a forensic proof killer. Ann-Margaret will be guest starring.

I’m so excited to be back on CSI. It's the first time in history that a villain from a novel has appeared on national television by the same creator, a literary/broadcast crossover if you will.

October 14th is going to be scary as hell! Can’t wait for you guys to see everything we’ve been working on!

Level 26ers,

Thanks to everyone who submitted for the Riddle contest! Now it’s time to vote. Please submit your vote HERE.

The deadline for voting is Wednesday, August 11 at 11:59 PM. We’ll announce the winners on Friday.

To see the answers, simply use your cursor to highlight the empty space next to the word “Answer.”

Here are the riddle submissions:

Female Prodigy:

My body tapers nice and neat

with but one eye I am complete
you'd judge me by my equipage

the greatest warrior of the age
For when you have surveyed me round

nothing but steel is to be found

yet men I never was known to kill

but ladies blood I often spill

What am I?

Answer: Needle

If wisdom be ascribed to age,
I surely am the greatest sage;
for my antiquity I trace,
higher than any Welchman's race:
I was with Adam at the first,
I witnessed his return to dust;
with Noah too I did embark,

to make the voyage in the ark;

and all the famous men of old,

whose feats are either sung or told,

with me their early course begun,

and closed with me their setting sun.

To all, my lessons I impart

seeking to mend each wayward heart;

and my assistance ever lend
to those who will themselves befriend,

but such as would my influence shun,

sooner or later are undone;

they often wish me far away,

and blame and chide my lingering stay;

Yet when their wish is crowned at last,

and weeks, and months, and years are past
they strangely of my flight complain,

and vainly wish me back again.
but when my presence is neglected,

and all my favors are rejected,

I leave the doubters to deplore,
for I return to them no more.

What am I?

Answer: Time

Jason Hall:

I can run, but never walk,

Often a murmur, never talk, I have a bed but never sleep, I have a mouth but never eat.

What am I?

Answer: River

The maker doesn't need it, the buyer doesn't use it. The user uses it without knowing.

What is it?

Answer: A coffin

KATH MURPHY:

I am terrifying and fear-inspiring, and the physical world cannot touch me...and when I'm finished,  you may not even REMEMBER ME...

What am I?

Answer: A nightmare

Police report to a scene...they find a dead man in an alley.  There is a bullet hole in his head; next to him the gun that killed him (with HIS fingerprints), a handkerchief, and a tape recorder.  The message on the tape recorder:
"I'm sorry, but I must end my life.  I'm in debt, and don't know how to get out of it--I'm sorry."  A few seconds later, the gun is heard going off.

Why did the detectives begin a homicide investigation as opposed to a suicide??

Answer:

1) The tape recorder was at the beginning of the message--and you can hear the gunshot...so someone ELSE was there; dead guys don't hit REWIND.

2) Individuals that commit Suicide DON'T USE HANDKERCHIEFS--but murderers use them to put the gun in the dude's hand so HIS fingerprints are ON THE GUN.

A second-string paparazzi is attempting to get into an event; he's not on THE LIST.  He's already attempted to get in twice and is having a difficult time figuring out how to get past the HUGE bouncer,  who tells him, "Three Strikes, and you're out...but if you can figure it out, you're in--good luck."  He stands near the door, listening to what the bouncer asks the people in the line:

The first guy comes up.  The Bouncer says simply, "12".  He answers, "6".  The bouncer unhooks the rope and lets him in.  There was one more group of girls left in line, and then, the photog.  The girls are up.  The bouncer says, "6".  The girls giggle and screech "3!!!"  The bouncer lets the group of girls into the event.

The photographer, by now with a MAJOR COCKY SWAGGER, ambles up, and says to the Bouncer,  "Okay, asshole, gimme your best shot!!"   The bouncer says, "No problem...8." The photographer smiles, and says..."FOUR!!"   The Bouncer turns around, goes back inside, slamming the door with the photographer looking at the door, with a shocked look on his face...

WHAT SHOULD HIS ANSWER HAVE BEEN?

Answer: Five. 12 = twelve = 6 letters, 6 = six = 3 letters, 8 = eight = 5 letters

20Lucky_7:

What do you call it, when someone is murdered, everyone knows, and nobody sheds a tear?

Answer: Justice

Riddle Contest
  Posted by Anthony E. Zuiker on Aug 2, 2010

While all of you are eagerly anticipating the release of Dark Prophecy this October, we here at Dare to Pass have already begun thinking of the third book in the series. That’s right, we’re thinking that far ahead.

We’re locking picture on the Dark Prophecy cyber-bridges this week, we’ve started working with our composer for the music, sound designer and color correctionist. And soon, we’re going to start ramping up our campaign for the Dark Prophecy release. You’ll see the brand new website we’ve created, the trailer for the cyber-bridges, photos, behind-the-scenes and all that good stuff.

We’re so excited to bring this stuff to you guys, it looks amazing and I can’t wait to hear your response.

That said, we haven’t had a contest in a while and as we begin development on Book 3, I wanted to get you, the community, involved again.

So here it is, the contest for the week:

We’re looking for riddles. Lots of them. And would love to hear what you guys have. We’re looking for the most puzzling, the most mind-bending riddles out there and you can submit as many as you want.

We’re not asking you to come up with your own. You can pull them from other sources, just be sure to credit where they’re from in your post. However, if you happen to have original riddles, we’d ask that you read the following disclaimer before you submit them:

Be advised that any content, feedback, comments, ideas, suggestions and/or materials (collectively, the “Materials”) posted or uploaded by you to this website shall be done so without the reservation of any rights or further control over the Materials or the Materials’ use by you and you specifically authorize this website and its owners, affiliates, licensees and assigns to use such Materials in whole or in part, throughout the universe, in perpetuity in any and all media now known or hereafter devised, free and clear of any and all claims for royalties, residuals, or other compensation.  By posting and/or uploading any such Materials, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agreed to the foregoing. Please see the Terms of Use for further details.

Use the forum for this thread for your submissions. Once the contest period is over, we’ll post the collection and have the community vote on who submitted the best riddle.

The deadline for this contest is Friday, August 6, 2010 at 11:59 PM EST.

Winners will receive Gold, Silver and Bronze Sqweegel awards.

Looking forward to hearing what you guys have for us.

Comic Con 2010
  Posted by Anthony E. Zuiker on Jul 26, 2010

Unfortunately, the Dare to Pass team was unable to go to Comic-Con this year, like we did last year. My wife and I were able to attend, and I was fortunate to moderate the CBS “Teching Out on TV” panel with Pauley Perrette from NCIS, Barrett Foa from NCIS: LA, and Kristen Vangsness from Criminal Minds.

I thought I’d let my wife, Gory Girl, provide the wrap up of our experience at:

Comic Con 2010

This year there was a ton of things to see and do but so little time. I'm going to give you the best and worst of the convention this year.

I arrived on Thursday to the Hotel Se in San Diego. It was a hotel that was chosen by the network and being that we decided to go late we were happy just to have a room or so we thought...

It turned out that the hotel used the pool as a party place every night till 2am, so we were running on 2 days of no sleep! This is not a hotel I would recommend AT ALL. The management is a bit crap and the service in the restaurant was God-awful.

Friday at the convention I got an early start looking at all the booths and buying up exclusive Comic Con stuff for my friends in Vegas. Luckily some of them had done a bit of research, so I was armed with booth numbers and the items names all ready for me in an email. This made it really easy to navigate through the large crowds.

There were some really fun costumes this year and some....not so good! 'The Walking Dead' booth was by far my favorite with windows that replayed Zombies outside them, you could take pictures of yourself in the setting too. It also looks to be the hit of the year for AMC and it's defiantly going on my Tivo.

The Tron bike was on display, and it was hard to keep the crowd moving past the damn thing - but once I got close I could see why! I am excited to see this childhood favorite revamped for another generations of kids.
There were plenty of cool things to see at the Sideshow Collectables booth and I always take a slow walk trough there along with the Lucas Arts booth. There was plenty of signing at all the booths this year and it seemed to be well organized as usual.

Saturday was the longest day, but the main reason I went. It was for the panels in Hall H, and if you know Comic Con you know that you have to line up for those at least 6 or 7 hours prior... if not the night before, to have any chance of getting in. I had an assistant do it for me, and I barely made it in the hall being one of the last people before they closed the line. I did manage to get a fantastic seat close to the front so I was all settled in for 10 solid hours of movie previews and panels.
You can read the rest of this article at GoryGirl.com.
Meanwhile, we’re on our way to locking picture on
Dark Prophecy. I really can’t wait to show you guys what we put together. So excited for October 14th. We’re going to have surprises galore leading up to the launch. Stay tuned!
